229) HSG Testing Can Be Inaccurate
Although hysterosalpingography (HSG) is the most widely available test for assessing tubal patency, the results often are inconclusive or interpreted inaccurately. Carol, a patient of Dr. Gary Berger, shares her story of pregnancy and birth after being told her tubes were blocked following reversal surgery.

230) Are Tests Required After Reversal Surgery?
Although some women choose to use ovulation predictor kits or fertility medications following surgery, these are not required. Once the tubes are repaired, there is a chance that pregnancy can occur naturally each month with tubal reversal surgery.

231) Financial Help For Reversal Surgery

237) Tubal Reversal Surgery Versus IVF Following Ligation and Resection
Tubal ligation and resection (removal) of a portion of the fallopian tube is the most frequent method of blocking the tubes. In most cases, pregnancy rates following a ligation and resection procedure and subsequent reversal surgery are high. Approximately two out of three women with this type of sterilization will become pregnant after reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. Pregnancy rates with IVF are around 28% per cycle.

238) Pregnancy And HCG Monitoring
Measuring and interpreting HCG blood levels is the best way to monitor the development of a pregnancy in the earliest weeks. In a normally developing pregnancy, serum HCG levels double every 2 to 3 days. When serum HCG reaches 1500-2000 mIU/ml, a vaginal ultrasound exam should show a gestation sac in the uterus.

239) Pregnant 3 Weeks After Reversal Surgery With 0nly One Tube
I thought I didn't have much of a chance with only one tube, I had my tubal reversal on July 6th on August 10th I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!

240) Problems After Tubal Ligation
Post-Tubal Ligation Syndrome, or PTLS, is a set of symptoms some women feel they developed as a result of having a tubal ligation. Symptoms may include very heavy, painful periods, severe PMS, headaches, and other problems. While PTLS is not recognized by the medical community, many of Dr. Berger's patients have reported significant relief of their symptoms following tubal reversal surgery.

241) Early Pregnancy Monitoring Protocol - HCG Blood Results
This TR patient is thrilled to have a positive pregnancy test and has posted the healthy results of her first HCG (pregnancy hormone) blood draw. TR patients are at increased risk of ectopic pregnancy, so Dr. Berger insists on a strict early pregnancy monitoring protocol (blood work, and an ultrasound once the HCG levels reach 1500) to verify the pregnancy is in the uterus. Even with the increased risk, about 85% of pregnancies in Dr. Berger's patients are in the right place.

242) Tubal Reversal Surgery Following Multiple C-sections
Many patients with a history of multiple caesarean births have had successful tubal reversals with Dr. Berger, and gone on to have more children. Previous abdominal surgeries, including caesareans, may cause scar tissue formation, but this is rarely a problem in tubal reversal surgery or future pregnancies. Several message board members with similar histories post their TR and pregnancy stories on the board.

243) Questions About Fertility Medication, And Its Possible Side Effects.
A tubal reversal patient posts a question about Clomid, a fertility drug, which her doctor has prescribed for her. Patients and a staff reply regarding possible side effects she might encounter. Most tubal reversal patients are able to conceive naturally without medication, but if a patient has problems with ovulation, Clomid may help.

244) Registered Members On Dr. Berger's Message Board Tops 10,000
There are now over 10,000 registered members of Dr. Berger's tubal reversal message board! On the board, past and prospective tubal reversal patients are able to find medical information from Dr. Berger, the nurses, and each other regarding all aspects of the TR procedure, as well as support and encouragement afterwards and advice on how to get pregnant more quickly. 10,000 is a lot of lives that have been touched by Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.

A prospective TR patient is welcomed to Dr. Berger's Message Board, and responding to her concerns, members reassure her that she will be able to lose enough weight before her surgery so her BMI will be under 35, as required.
