26) Is Tubal Ligation Permanent?
Most articles about tubal ligation stress that it is permanent. Most people, including many doctors, believe this to be true. However, the experience of Dr. Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center shows that tubal ligation can be reversed in over 95% of cases.

27) December 14th Tubal Reversal Surgery Appointment
Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center's message board members and staff discuss upcoming surgery. Patients are nervous about surgery and the outcome of the their reversal. Other patients that have already had their reversal surgery with Dr. Berger help to alleviate the anxiety of surgery by telling about their experience. One member writes: I never was more comfortable at a doctor's office or hospital then I was at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. They are all so sweet and Dr. Berger is the BEST!!!

28) Deciding Between Tubal Reversal Surgery and IVF
Although reversal surgery at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is statistically and financially the best option for pregnancy after a tubal ligation, women over age 40 have a special set of circumstances that are - unfortunately - often not addressed during an IVF consultation. The truth is, most IVF clinics will not accept patients over age 40 or 42 unless they agree to use donor eggs (eggs from a younger woman). This is to help keep their statistics high. We performed IVF for many years at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center and Dr. Berger is now limiting his practice to tubal reversal surgery for a reason: It gives women who have previously had a sterilization the chance to conceive naturally again -- without medications, shots, and continued expense each time they want to conceive. Most of the women who contact us have already considered IVF - and have definitely ruled out donor egg IVF - and for good reason. It will be very important to ask your reproductive specialist very directly whether he/she will accept a woman age 42 for IVF without donor eggs or decline you if your FSH level is slightly elevated (as many clinics do). For almost all women, reversal surgery is the most successful and least expensive option to have a baby after a previous tuballigation.

29) Our 1st Berger Babe Has Arrived
Our family would like to thank Dr Berger and his amazing staff for giving us this holiday miracle! Conall Rolfe arrived November 2nd, 2007 and is absolutely handsome as can be. His older sisters and dad all agree he is everything they had hoped for. When we first began this journey, I was about to turn 40 years old. Most of my doctors were skeptical about a reversal. So like many other women of advanced maternal age I turned to IVF which resulted in 2 BFN's. My DH and I decided to give Dr Berger a try. I was pregnant within 3 months of my reversal... even with my advanced maternal age and poor egg reserve (or so they said).

30) Tubal Reversal Basics - Fallopian Tube Anatomy and Function
The fallopian tubes are the female reproductive organs that permit capture and fertilization of an egg after its release from the ovary, development of a zygote, and its transfer to the uterine cavity for implantation of an embryo. The different parts of the fallopian tube correspond to these functions. Dr. Berger's extensive experience in performing tubal reversal procedures reveals that no single part of the fallopian tube is essential and that restoring tubal patency allows normal pregnancy to occur regardless of the portions of tube that have been removed by a tubal ligation procedure or the length of tube remaining.

31) Possible Heterotopic Pregnancy After Tubal Reversal Surgery
On the Tubal Reversal Message Board, Dr. Berger posts this response to a question posed by a message board member, "The coexistence of an intrauterine and an ectopic pregnancy is called a heterotopic pregnancy. It occurs only about 1:30,000 pregnancies naturally, but if you have taken fertility medications that produce multiple eggs, then the probability of a heterotopic pregnancy occurring is higher. I have seen 3 patients in the past with heterotopic pregnancies and in all 3 cases I was able to diagnose and remove the tubal pregnancy via laparoscopy and the uterine pregnancy continued to normal delivery. In each of these cases, the patients had been treated with gonadotropins (pituitary hormone medications) that had produced multiple eggs resulting in the multiple pregnancies."

32) Dr. Berger's Tubal Reversal Blog

Although intercourse can be resumed when a woman is comfortable following surgery, Dr. Berger asks patients to wait until they have a period following surgery before they begin trying to conceive.

47) Tubal Reversal Surgery After Filshie Clip Sterilization
Clips and rings provide the best situation Dr. Berger sees for pregnancy following sterilization reversal surgery. During this procedure, a segment of tube is pulled into a ring or a plastic clip is placed across the tube to prevent pregnancy form occurring. Fortunately, this generally damages a minimal amount of tube leaving adequate tubal lengths remaining for the sterilization reversal procedure. At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, information on each patient and her surgery is entered into a database so that detailed statistics can be kept. This information is analyzed annually and pregnancy rates following reversal of a clip sterilization by Dr. Berger are as high as 83%.

48) Pregnant After Tubal Reversal Surgery With One Tube And Ovary
A patient of Dr. Gary Berger posts on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board that she is pregnant following her tubal reversal procedure, even though she has just one tube and ovary! Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubes in 98% of cases with pregnancy rates as high as 86%.

49) Bilateral Tubal Tubal Ligation And Tubal Reversal Surgery
Bilateral tubal ligation is the generic name for a tubal sterilization procedure. Bilateral means both sides and tubal ligation means to tie the tubes. This is the most common type of sterilization. Fortunately, two out of three of the women who come to see Dr. Berger for tubal reversal surgery with this type of sterilization will become pregnant following the reversal.

50) This Is My Third Tubal Reversal Baby
