During the period of September 4, 2007 through September 14, 2007, sixteen patients reported new pregnancies after tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. This group included three women age 40 and older and two women with tubal lengths of 3cm or less! Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubes in 98% of cases and is the only physician in the US with a practice dedicated solely to tubal reversal surgery.

131) Tubal Reversal Surgery After The Tubes are Tied and Cut
Tubal ligation and resection (removal) of a portion of the fallopian tube is the most frequent method of blocking the tubes. This involves tying a segment of tube and removing it. There are many variations of this technique, which is commonly called the Pomeroy procedure. At Chapel Hill tubal Reversal Center, pregnancy rates following a ligation and resection procedure and subsequent reversal surgery are high with two out of three women becoming pregnant after the reversal.. With this method of tubal ligation, part of the tube is elevated to create a loop or knuckle. An absorbable ligature is tied around the base of the elevated segment, and the tubal segment is cut out. Although some additional tube may be damaged when the cut ends are burned or further tied, Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubes in 98% of cases.

136) Tubal Reversal Patients Discuss Ovulation Predictor Kits
Dr. Berger recommends using ovulation predictor kits to determine the time of ovulation and enhance the opportunity for conception after tubal reversal surgery. These simple urine tests are easy to use and detect the presence of LH (lutenizing hormone) in the urine indicating that ovulation is about to occur. This marks the ideal time to try to conceive. On the Tubal Reversal Message Board, tubal reversal patients discuss their preferred brands of ovulation predictor kits and where to purchase them.

137) Screening Laparoscopy Before Tubal Reversal Surgery
A member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board inquires about how many women chose to have a screening laparoscopy prior to tubal reversal surgery and was it worth the extra fee? Screening laparoscopy is an option for patients whose BMI is less than 30. Out of the 550 women that have had tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger so far this year, 25 have chosen to have screening laparoscopy performed. Of those 25 women, 5 were unable to have their tubes repaired. Because they chose the screening laparoscopy package, they received a portion of their money back making this a good choice for them. The good news is that out of the 550 total patients so far this year, Dr. Berger has been able to repair the tubes in 99% of cases. The screening laparoscopy is somewhat like an insurance policy; you hope you never need it but it is nice to have in case you do.

139) Does the Price for Tubal Reversal Depend on Weight or BMI?
At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, the cost of tubal reversal is all-inclusive and is not based on a patient's weight or body mass index (BMI). In our view, tubal reversal cost should be the same regardless of a patient's size. The BMI limit we have set for our patient's allows us to provide safe and optimal patient care for outpatient surgery. If patients need to loose weight to meet the BMI limit we encourage them to do this through healthy measures such as diet and exercise. Meeting the BMI limit also helps you be better prepared for a healthy pregnancy.
