1) 18-Month Update on My Tubal Reversal Baby
Kendall is pleased to share an update and pictures of her 18-month-old tubal reversal baby, Lauryn. Kendall is especially grateful to have Lauryn in her life, because Lauryn was finally born 4 years and 4 months after Kendall's tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. Kendall states that Lauryn is "bright and full of life and is definitely a joy to have!" Other message board members thank her for sharing and kwilson states that Kendall's story "gives her hope" that someday she'll have her own tubal reversal baby to love.

2) Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Welcomes Dr. Split
Dr. James Split, a board certified anesthesiologist, is the newest member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center staff. Although only 4 tubal reversal surgeries are performed each day at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, there are 2 anesthesiologists and a nurse anesthetist on staff. The primary responsibility of the anesthesia department is to ensure patients' safety during surgery and comfort during recovery. Many of Dr. Berger's patients who are having their tubes untied will be speaking with Dr. Split as a part of their preoperative evaluation and will meet him on the day prior to or on the day of their tubal ligation reversals.

3) The Two Newest Tubal Reversal Babies have Arrived
Athena and April are both pleased to announce the births of their first tubal reversal babies. Athena's son, Garrett Conner, was born on April 19th and April's daughter, Autumn Lorain, was born on April 18th. Both babies are doing well and should be going home with their moms this week. Other members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board share in the good news and are looking forward to seeing pictures of these two newborn tubal reversal babies.

4) What to Test for Pregnancy after Tubal Ligation Reversal
The question of when to test for pregnancy after tubal reversal surgery is often discussed on the Tubal Reversal Message Board. Some women like to start testing even before they have missed a menstrual period. A blood pregnancy test (HCG assay) will be able to detect an early pregnancy by 10-12 days after ovulation, and home pregnancy tests can become positive within 12-14 days after ovulation. Testing, therefore, can be performed before a missed period. Dr. Berger recommends that women who have regular and predictable menstrual cycles wait until their menstrual period is late before testing for.

5) Most Tubal Ligations are Reversible
Many women who want more kids after a tubal have questions about how to untie tubes. Most tubal ligations leave two separate segments of the tube that can be rejoined to reverse tubal ligation. In some cases, however, there may be only one tubal segment remaining. In these situations where tubal anastomosis (rejoining segments) is not possible, tubal implantation can be performed. Dr. Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center performs this type of operation by making an opening in the uterine muscle and inserting the tubal segment into the uterine cavity. Many of Dr. Berger's have had tubal implantation procedures, become pregnant, and gone on to deliver healthy babies.

6) Tubal Reversal Surgery at A Discounted Rate
Dr. Charles Monteith will be joining the staff of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center as a Tubal Reversal Specialist in July of 2008. By then, he will have trained with Dr. Berger in tubal reversal surgery for six months. The initial fee for surgery with Dr. Monteith will be a discounted rate of $4900. This rate will be available from July 21st to September 1st. This is an all-inclusive fee and includes all aspects of care. Many patients wanting to have children after tubal ligation are taking advantage of the reduced rate with Dr. Monteith.

7) Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Pregnancy Report for April 12-18, 2008
Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center publishes a Weekly Pregnancy Report. This past week there were ten new pregnancies reported by Dr. Berger's patients who have undergone tubal ligation reversal surgery. Dr. Berger is the only tubal reversal surgeon who publishes this kind of comprehensive data on a weekly basis. Detailed pregnancy statistics are updated annually. The weekly reports and annual statistics provide women who are thinking about having another baby after tubes tied with accurate and detailed information about the long term outcomes after tubal reversal surgery. This allows them to make an informed decision before having their tubes untied.

8) Tubal Reversal Success After Failed Treatment by IVF
VChick asks other women on the Tubal Reversal Message Board if they have had success from tubal reversal surgery after having been treated by in vitro fertilization (IVF) without success. She receives many responses from patients of Dr. Berger who have become pregnant and now have one or more babies after their tubal reversal procedure. These women point out that their doctors directed them to IVF and their doctors seemed unaware that tubal reversal has higher rates of pregnancy and births than IVF and is much less expensive. With all the information about tubal reversal that is now available on the internet, it is difficult to understand why the medical community at large is not better educated about the advantages of tubal reversal surgery.

9) When to Start Trying for Second Baby After Tubes Tied and Untied
Increasing numbers of women want another child after tubal ligation and therefore get their tubes untied. Once they have had a baby, they begin to wonder if and when to try for another. Members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board discuss this issue in response to a post by annmarie1228 who says, "My TR baby is 5 months old and my DH (dear husband) wants to let nature handle things and not use protection because he really wants a 2nd child. I am not sure what I want. I know if we do have another one, I don't want to wait to long because of my age and my older children's ages." This points out one of the advantages of tubal reversal surgery vs treatment by IVF. Once the fallopian tubes have been repaired, fertility is restored and a women can become pregnant again after having one baby. Many of Dr. Berger's patients have several children after tubal ligation and subsequent tubal reversal.

10) Tubal Reversal Surgery Is Now A Reality For A Patient Who Wants More Children
A message board member prayin4ababy shares her excitement after she sends her last payment to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. She is now ready to schedule her tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. As a convenient way to pay for the reversal surgery, many patients open a prepayment account and save money as they are able. Praying4ababy and her husband are excited that their dream of having a tubal reversal baby is now becoming a reality.

11) New Member and Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome on the Tubal Reversal Message Board
My fiance and I recently decided that we would like to have children of our own. We each have two children from previous relationships. While researching tubal reversals I discovered that there is such a thing as Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome..

12) The Time Between Tubal Ligation and Tubal Reversal Does Not Effect The Pregnancy Success Rate After Tubal Reversal Surgery
The time interval from tubal ligation to tubal reversal has not been shown to effect pregnancy success rate after tubal reversal surgery. Tubal reversal surgery can be done on women who have had their tubes tied twenty years ago or less than one year. There are many reasons that cause a woman to change her mind and desire more children after a previous sterilization. The desire for more children can happen immediately after tubal ligation or it can happen months or even years later.

13) Dr. Monteith's First Day as a Tubal Reversal Surgeon
Dr. Charles Monteith is currently training with Dr. Berger to become a tubal reversal specialist. In his personal blog, Dr. Monteith describes his first day working alongside Dr. Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. He talks about the four patients that he met that day, as well as how it made him feel to know that Dr. Berger had helped all four women achieve their dreams of tubal ligation reversal and had given them the chance to correct mistakes made in the past.

14) Pregnancy after Tubal Reversal Surgery
Lynn is excited to post on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message that her first pregnancy after tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger is going well. She has followed Dr. Berger's pregnancy protocol and has been having her quantitative HCG levels drawn and has already had a ultrasound performed. Her HCG levels have been rising appropriately and the ultrasound showed a gestational sac in her uterus, which is normal this early in pregnancy. Other message board members share in Lynn's happiness and wish her well over the next nine months.

15) Preparing For Tubal Reversal Surgery With Dr. Berger
A member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is wondering what things she should bring with her when she comes for her tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. Staff members offer suggestions as well as a check list is available for patients to help them prepare for their surgery. Patients receive a packet of information at the time of scheduling. By receiving this information early and with the information available on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center message board patients are better prepared for their trip to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. This is just one small example of the dedication to exceptional patient care given by Dr. Berger and his staff.

16) A Second Miracle Following Tubal Reversal Surgery
Kelly announces the arrival of her second tubal reversal baby. She states "God truly has given you (Dr. Berger) a special gift as a physician. Once again a special thanks to you and your staff for giving us a chance to have these two precious gifts." Once again, tubal reversal surgery has given another woman a chance to conceive two precious children on her own. Testimonials are a wonderful way for parents to announce the joy of the birth of their new babies but it also allows other women to see that tubal reversal may just be the answer that they are looking for.

17) Age And Pregnancy Following Tubal Reversal Surgery
A member of the Tubal Reversal Message Board is looking for women who are around her age (33) who had tubal reversal surgery performed by Dr. Berger and became pregnant right away. Other members respond with their stories. We have seen pregnancies reported as soon as a month after surgery as well as a year or more after surgery. Tubal reversal surgery enables women to conceive naturally and has a higher pregnancy rate and a higher birth rate than IVF. For most women desiring another child after tubal sterilization, tubal reversal is the best treatment. Most people are not aware that tubal ligation - usually considered a permanent method of birth control - can be reversed through low cost, one hour outpatient surgery. Even many doctors think mistakenly that treatment by in vitro fertilization (IVF) is needed for women who want another baby after having a tubal ligation. The results from a study that Dr. Berger conducted demonstrates clearly that tubal reversal is more successful than IVF for most women wanting their fertility restored after having their tubes tied.

18) Do I Need My Tubal Ligation Records To Schedule Tubal Reversal Surgery?
A member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board questions whether she should have an HSG since she can not obtain a copy of her tubal ligation report. Dr. Berger does not recommend an HSG prior to the reversal since this test is not helpful in predicting the outcome of the reversal. HSG testing is used to assess the interior ofthe uterus and to determine if the tubes are blocked. If you cannot get a copy of your tubal ligation operative report, Dr. Berger can begin your surgery with diagnostic laparoscopy to examine your fallopian tubes and determine if tubal reversal is likely to be successful. If so, he will repair your tubes right then. If your tubal ligation has severely damaged your tubes and Dr. Berger does not repair them, you will be given a partial refund. The "laparoscopy package" is excellent insurance in situations when the type of tubal ligation is unknown. The screening laparoscopy option is limited to patients with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 30. The good news is that Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubes in 98% of the cases.

19) Women Desiring Tubal Reversal Get Creative to Save Money for Surgery
Members of the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center are discussing ways to save money for their tubal reversal surgeries. While some are selling unwanted items on online auction sites, others are cutting back on little luxuries like cable TV, cell phones, and eating out. Mel, a message board member states, "I can not and will not give up on hopes of becoming a mother again. It's not easy but I am cutting back on spending, working extra hours, and doing fund-raisers. Don't give up!" Dr. Berger also offers a Prepayment savings account to make it easier for his patients to save for their surgeries. There is also the option of a loan through MedChoice Financial that some women have used to pay for their tubal reversal surgery.

20) Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Posts Pregnancy Report for 4/5/08 - 4/11/08
Sarah, RN, a staff member at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center has posted that there were ten new pregnancies reported by tubal reversal patients of Dr. Berger between April 5 and April 11. The majority of pregnancies occurred to women in their thirties, however, there were two pregnancies reported by women in their forties and one to a twenty-nine year old. The women had varied types of tubal ligations. Most had been performed by the ligation and resection technique, while other methods included Falope Rings, Filshie Clips and Hulka Clips. Sarah encouraged everyone to check out the New Pregnancies section of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center website for more details.

21) Should Tubal Reversal Patients Restrict Caffeine Use?
Tubal reversal patients discuss the relationship of caffeine consumption and their chances of conceiving a pregnancy on the Tubal Reversal Message Board. Sandy asks, "Has anyone cut back on caffeine to become more fertile?" Berta, who has researched this topic on the internet, shares what she has learned. "Changes in diet could be helpful in treating infertility. Studies show that consumption of excessive amounts of caffeine has been associated with delayed conception in women trying to become pregnant." It is evident by many of the posts on this subject that the women who are patients of Dr. Gary Berger feel that cutting down on caffeine while trying to conceive after their tubal reversal procedure is a good idea.

22) A Big Thank You to Dr. Berger and Nurses at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center
Karen, a member on the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center has written. "I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you Dr. Berger and your entire staff. My tubal reversal surgery was January 10th and on my 2nd cycle we became pregnant. You and your staff are some of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life, especially in the medical community. Not only did I have successful surgery, but I am on the road to having that special addition to my family that I have dreamt about for so many years." She goes on to say, "The support system from this website and you and your nurses being available to us practically at all times is a miracle in itself." Comments such as these are posted regularly on the website of Dr. Gary Berger.

23) Do You Want Support Before, During and After Your Tubal Reversal?
G.M. wrote on the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center the night before her tubal reversal surgery, "I had my initial visit today with Dr. Berger. I was very nervous at first but everyone was just so nice and made me feel like I had been going there for regular visits." Immediately, well wishers chimed in to offer their support. Sarah, R.N., a staff member at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, posted how much she enjoyed meeting GM that day and wished her well. After surgery, Pam C.R.N.A, Donna, R.N. and Rhonda, R.N. all posted personal notes of encouragement for G.M. Dr. Berger and his staff routinely answer questions and offer support on the Tubal Reversal Message Board along with other message board members who call themselves "TR sisters".

24) Is Tubal Reversal Covered by Medical Insurance?
A new member on the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center has asked the question, "I am interested in reversing my tubal ligation, but wanted to to know if my insurance company would pay for any of it?" Berta answers," Most insurance companies won't pay for tubal reversal," while another member encourages her to file with her insurance company for a possible reimbursement like she received. Ericka Pamplin, Business Office Manager at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center offers this, "Both of these ladies are correct. You can call customer service at your insurance company and ask if the procedure code 58750 and diagnosis code 628.2 are covered under your plan. Be sure to obtain your answers in writing." Patients of Dr. Berger are provided with itemized receipts listing both procedure and diagnosis codes that can be used when contacting your medical insurance carrier.

25) Pregnancy One Month after Tubal Reversal Surgery
Christine A. shares her tubal reversal story and thanks Dr. Berger for the chance to have another baby - her son Jenaro, who was born on March 28, 2007. She says, "I know this is coming to you much later than it should have. But like they say, better late than never. One month after my surgery, I was pregnant. Dr. Berger, you are truly a miracle worker. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. I especially thank God for blessing you with the abilities he has given you. You are extremely talented." Christine is one of the countless women who have been able to experience motherhood again after tubal reversal surgery.

26) Predicting Tubal Lengths After Tubal Reversal Surgery
A potential tubal reversal patient posts on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board seeking information about how to predict the amount of fallopian tube remaining after the tubal reversal procedure with Dr. Gary Berger. Although the operative report from the tubal ligation is helpful in determining the outcome after surgery, it is not 100% accurate. The amount of tubal damage is determined by where ligatures were placed on each tube and, if coagulation was used, the amount of electrical energy and length of time applied to the tubes. These are usually not specified in an operative report. The tubal segment lengths described in a pathology report underestimate the actual amount of damage done the tube during a tubal ligation procedure. The only occasion when the tubal length that has been damaged can be known in advance of the reversal operation is when a single tubal clip has been applied to the fallopian tube.
