Any woman attempting to conceive naturally could have difficulty with ovulation (not releasing eggs) and pregnancy miscarriage. These two problems become more common with advancing maternal age and can make it more difficult to become pregnant. Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is proud of all of our patients who become pregnant and we especially love to share stories of women who have special pregnancy success. We recently had a 46 year-old patient who underwent an unsuccessful cycle of IVF. She then had a tubal reversal, naturally became pregnant, and gave birth to a healthy tubal reversal baby boy in January of this year!.

Tubal Reversal Message Board members, as well as Dr. Berger, Dr. Monteith, and Tubal Reversal Center staff think that the best way to talk with your local doctor is to be direct and not feel that you have to justify your decision to have your tubes untied. Some doctors may be judgmental or try to talk you out of having more children, while other doctors will be supportive about having tubal reversal surgery. The decision about whether to have more children through tubal reversal is a personal one for couples to make. It is really not up to friends, family, or other doctors. If your doctor is not supportive and helpful, then finding another local physician is recommended.

Most patients who come to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center have children and will enquire about bringing their children with them for their reversal surgery. They have performed more than 8000 reversal procedures and have acquired the greatest experience with untying tubes of any surgeon worldwide. Their tubal reversal techniques optimize the outcome and reduce recovery times and costs of the tubal reversal surgery. Most women find that it is less expensive to fly to North Carolina for surgery with Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith than to stay locally for the procedure. Since pregnancy and its outcome are the primary concerns of most women who choose the reverse tubal ligation procedure, the answer to this question should be based on accurate statistical data. On the Internet, claims about tubal reversal pregnancy rates are often made without supporting information or documentation - such as a description of the patient population, study method, and follow-up interval. At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, Dr. Berger and his staff collect and report tubal reversal outcomes on an ongoing basis. Dr. Berger and Dr. Moneteith at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center recommend that their patients wait for at least 6 to 12 months after their tubal reversal procedures to have a hysterosalpingogram (HSG). It is best to give one's self a chance to become pregnant rather than rushing to have an HSG. Most patients will conceive within this time frame and therefore avoid the need for an unnecessary, costly, and uncomfortable test to confirm that their tubes are open. and possibly misleading and harmful procedure.

We would like to announce the arrival of our special little boy, Indie Alexander born 2 October 2009. We are absolutely delighted with our little angel made possible by all you special people at Chapel Hill - especially you, Dr Berger. When we set out on our TR journey in July 2008 travelling thousands of miles from our home in the UK for a week round trip, at times we thought we were crazy. But last Friday when we held our precious precious gift in our arms, every mile and penny spent was worth it a million times over. Anyone out there thinking of embarking on this tremendous journey then we have a message for you - GO FOR IT!!
74) Early Pregnancy Monitoring for Tubal Reversal Patients
When patients of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center become pregnant, we recommend following our early pregnancy protocol. The pregnancy protocol involves early notification of a patient's doctor as soon as a home pregnancy test becomes positive. This will allow early evaluation of the location of the pregnancy. The patient's doctor can monitor the early pregnancy with quantitative serum HCG (pregnancy hormone) test twice a week (at 2-3 day intervals) and schedule a vaginal ultrasound exam when the patient's HCG level reaches 1500. When the HCG level reaches 1500, a vaginal ultrasound will show a gestational sac within the uterus in a normally developing intrauterine pregnancy. If the the vaginal ultrasound does not reveal a gestational sac in the uterine cavity then the HCG level and the vaginal ultrasound should be repeated within 2 or 3 days. Depending upon the quality of the equipment and experience of the person performing your US examination, the gestational sac may not be seen until HCG is about 2000.
75) Pain After Tubes Tied: A Symptom of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome?
Most doctors have been taught that no such entity as Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) exists, much to the exasperation of women who are suffering from symptoms that began after a tubal sterilization. At the request of many women who are members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board, a blog series has been started about PTLS that will allow individuals to report about their personal experiences and case histories. Then, articles from the medical literature will be reviewed and discussed. Hopefully, this approach will help explain the discrepancy between what individual women have experienced and what medical doctors think about this complex subject.
76) Hot Flashes After a Tubal Ligation
Many women report the onset of hot flashes following their tubal ligation. This is one of the various symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS). Many women discuss this symptom on the Tubal Reversal Message Board. One of their major frustrations is that most doctors and nurses are not familiar with PTLS and are not helpful to them. In an ongoing PTLS Study at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, approximately 90% of women report improvement in their PTLS symptoms after tubal ligation reversal surgery. This initial report from the PTLS Study has been published in the Society for Reproductive Surgeons (SRS) Newsletter: 1 (1) 2008, page 5.
