PTLS Questions Discussed on the Tubal Reversal Message Board

Questions about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) are discussed frequently by members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board. An active forum topic is initiated by 'michelle381' who writes, "I had my tubes tied July 25 2001, 10 hrs after my son was born. At the time of my tubal ligation I was 30 and had never had any problem with my period prior to my TL. I had regular periods that came every 28 days and lasted about 6 days. No cramping, no mood swings. And now I'm in pain 3 weeks out of the month. Extreme crapping, back pain. Major mood swings. I'm tired all the time and have headaches so bad that I have to be in a dark room. Now it seems to get worse as the years go on. I can't live like this anymore. I have been treated for the headaches and cramping but it's always with pain killers and having 3 kids from the ages of 4 to 9. I can't take them and try to function. I don't want to mask the problem. I want someone who can fix the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?"

PTLS Symptom Relief after Tubal Reversal Surgery

Sherry underwent tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger ten days ago and is amazed that her PTLS symptoms have already improved dramatically. She states that the "reversal surgery was worth every penny." Other message board members agree with Sherry and also report improvement in their menstrual cycles, such as shorter periods and decreased pain. The message board is a good source of inspiration and information for potential tubal reversal patients and it allows them to see that tubal reversal surgery can provide relief from PTLS symptoms, as well as restore fertility.

About Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome and Tubal Reversal

Before my tubal reversal, I would get cyclic migraines - they only started happening after my tubal ligation. Two days before my period started, I would be down with a migraine, and it would last until a few days after the bleeding had stopped. This went on for 12 yrs. Along with that, I would experience horrible leg and back pain, my bleeding would last 7-9 days with heavy clotting and terrible cramps that otc meds didn't ease. There were other lesser symptoms - hair loss, weight gain, etc. I had my TR Sept 04 - my very next cycle took me by surprise, as there was no migraine to warn of the impending start. I have not had a migraine since. No more leg or back pain - my actual bleeding went from over a week of heavy flow/clotting to two days of heavy flow and three days of light flow. Very little clotting, and only mild cramps the first day. My hair is again thick. No more leg or back pain either. I suffered for 12 yrs, the docs were unable to explain what was wrong - it was suggested that I go on BC (how ridiculous to have to take bc after being sterilized!). Many docs do not believe in PTLS - many more women all complain of the exact same symptoms all starting after TL. Sorry, but I just do not trust the doctors on this issue. They do not warn of the possible after effects, they brush us off afterwards when we start having problems.

What Happens to Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome After Tubal Reversal?

Tubal Reversal Message Board members discuss the difference in their symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome before and after tubal reversal surgery. One members states, "I had my tubal reversal due to PTLS. I had a lot of bad symptoms. Mine were fits of rage, no sex drive, could not sleep, weight gain, hair loss, depressed (never was before), terrible long AF's. I had the tubal reversal in 3/06 and by the time of my first cycle most of them were gone. I was much better and my family saw a huge difference in me without me even asking around 3 months. My first AF cycle was back to pre-TL. I was very fortunate that my surgery was a complete success and this happened for me very soon after TR." Another reports, "It takes about a full cycle and you'll notice the difference. I don't know how it works or why, but it works. It's truly amazing."

I came to you 6 months ago with the hope of having another child but also with the hope of getting rid of the PTLS that I had. I am still working on the other child part but my PTLS is practically gone and gets better ever month. I did not realize how bad I was truly feeling until I felt better and I thank you. I thank you for "putting me back together" for giving me the opportunity to have another child. For taking the only decision I have ever regretted it and righting it.
A member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board posts about her relief of symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) after tubal reversal surgery. Prior to surgery she had been experiencing a variety of unpleasant symptoms such as bloating, joint pain, and excessive bleeding during her periods. Following surgery, she is symptoms free and posts to thank Dr. Berger. Although there is no guarantee that tubal reversal surgery will relieve a woman's symptoms, the majority of Dr. Berger's patients who reported symptoms prior to surgery found relief after the tubal reversal procedure.
